Russian Foreign Ministry: agreement reached on processing 1 million tons of Russian grain in Turkey

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko said that Russia and Turkey had reached agreements in principle on processing 1 million tons of Russian grain for subsequent shipment to less developed countries. It is reported by RIA Novosti.

“We need to consider a number of issues. These are logistics, finance and much more, routes, countries of destination, quantity,” he said.

On July 22, 2022, Russia, Turkey, Ukraine and the UN in Istanbul signed an agreement on the creation of a corridor for the export of agricultural products from Ukraine via the Black Sea. On July 16, 2023, the Russian mission to the UN announced its withdrawal from the grain deal.

On July 17, there were reports that during the duration of the deal, the Russian Federation suffered losses in the amount of $ 1 billion. On the same day, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, Kuleba, said that the termination of the grain deal could not be compensated by deliveries by land.

In August 2023, Ukraine turned to a number of EU countries with a request to ensure the operation of an alternative grain corridor without the participation of Russia.

On August 27, 2023, the WSJ wrote that Russia’s withdrawal from the grain deal prevented the export of 3/4 of Ukrainian grain.
