League of Legends Patch Update 12.22: Champions Rebalance and Item Changes

On the night of November 16, Riot Games released patch 12.22 to the League of Legends client. The MOBA developers have significantly reworked many aspects of the game. It’s about time you got yourself a smurf account at happysmurf.com.

Champion changes

A total of 4 champions were changed in patch 12.22. Riot improved Cho’gath, Lillia and Nunu. Rakana has been redesigned
Cho’gath

Cho’gath was improved due to changes to Kara’s mechanics. The ultimatum ability Devour[R]partially had Kara’s properties, and so Riot decided to balance it by raising its damage.

Damage to all but champions: 1000 (+50% of skill power) (+10% of extra health) ⇒ 1200 (+50% of skill power) (+10% of extra health)

Lillia

The character has received a monumental overhaul, though at first glance it may seem otherwise. The character now attacks in melee, with corresponding changes to the Staff of Dreams passive ability and stats.

Staff of Dreams (passive skill)

Healing in combat against champions: 10.5-124.5 (depending on level) (+18% of skill power) (note: increases linearly) ⇒ 6-120 (depending on level) (+18% of skill power) (note: now uses a multiplier for stat gains)

Nunu

The changes affect Nunu for a similar reason as Cho’gath. Riot doesn’t want to give up the sewn-in devour mechanics that suffered after Kara’s change, and so they are strengthening the Absorption ability[Q]

Net damage to all but champions: 340/500/660/660/820/980 ⇒ 400/600/800/1000/1200

Rakan

Like Lilia the hero now attacks in melee.

General character changes

In addition to the four with individual changes, all the other inhabitants of the Caller’s Gorge have been redesigned. This was mostly done with “aesthetics” in mind.

Base attack power, health, mana, magic resistance, and mana gain: rounded to the nearest whole number.
Base attack power gain, mana regeneration, mana regeneration gain: rounded to the nearest 0.05
Base attack speed gain: rounded to the nearest 0.005

Kara changes

Since some of the characters were affected because of the kara changes, it’s a good idea to talk about these very changes. They are not the most global, but certainly important. The most important one is that now the damage depends on the number of charges accumulated with the help of a companion.

Kara damage: 450 (basic Kara) / 900 (Summoning Kara and Frost Kara) ⇒ 600/900/1200 (with 0/20/40 companion charges)
Titles (updated): Kara / Summoning Kara / Chilling Kara ⇒ Kara / Enhanced Kara / Primal Kara

Item changes

Along with the champions, the items have also been changed. Affected things that are classically suitable for tanks, but there is an explanation for this.

By changing some of the mythic items that were intended to form the basis of the build, Riot want to encourage a variety of play styles.

Building a mythic item isn’t always a good idea, and so they’ve been rethought.

In addition, Riot want to make tanks, real tanks. Often the items that have undergone changes have been used to hybridize builds and move into damage.

In addition, new items were also added, again for tanks.

Jacqu’Sho Many Faces

Passive – Defense of the Abyss: Every second in combat with champions, it gives a charge that increases armor and magic resistance by 2. When the maximum number of charges (8) is reached, you are boosted and instantly draw 3% of your maximum health from surrounding enemies (if the enemies are minions and monsters, the effectiveness is reduced to 30%). This increases your defenses by 10% until the end of the fight.
Mythic Passive Effect: All other legendary items grant 5 armor and 5 magic resistance.

Passive – Guiding Light: When you use an absolute skill, you become enlightened, increasing your maximum health by 10% for 9 seconds. While the effect is in effect, you and allies within a 1200 unit radius gain 15 non-absolute skill acceleration and are healed by 1% of your maximum health every 3 seconds. The effectiveness of the heal increases by up to 100% depending on the amount of missing health. Recharge is 60 seconds.
Mythic passive effect: all other legendary items give 100 health.

Heart of Steel

Recipe: Inflaming Stone + Crystal Handcuffs + Giant’s Belt
Passive – Colossal Absorption: after 3 seconds of preparation, you make a powerful attack against a champion within a 700 radius. This attack deals an additional 125 + 6% physical damage to your maximum health and permanently increases your maximum health by 10% of that value. The cooldown is 30 seconds for each target.
Mythic Passive Effect: All other legendary items grant 1% additional health and increase the size of the champion by 6%.

Ice Flame Mitten (previously Ice Flame Mitten)

Skill Acceleration: 20 (unchanged)
Recipe: Ashes of Bami + Antimagic Cloak + Cloth Armor ⇒ Radiance + Inflaming Stone + Ringwrap
Passive – Enchanted Blade: Your next autoattack after applying the skill deals an additional 100% of your base attack power in physical damage, and creates an ice field for 2.5 seconds. Enemies stepping on the field are slowed by 15% + 0.004% additional health (halved effectiveness for ranged champions). Your primary target is weakened: its deceleration is increased by 100% and it deals 10% less damage to you for 2.5 seconds. Recharge: 1.5 seconds.
Mythic passive effect: all other legendary items give 50 health, 5% resistance and 5% resistance to slowing.

Staff of the Ages

Recipe: Aeons Catalyst + Breaking Staff + Reinforcing Folio.
Passive: Gives 20 health, 20 mana, and 4 skill power every minute. The boosts add up to 10 times, giving you a total of 200 health, 200 mana, and 40 skill power. When the maximum number of charges is accumulated, your level increases by 1 and all Eternity effects are boosted by 50%. Please note: the maximum level remains level 18.
(Unique) Passive – Eternity: restores mana at a rate of 8% of the damage before applying defensive stats taken from champions. Restores health at a rate of 20% of mana expended (up to a maximum of 15 per skill application). Switchable skills restore a maximum of 15 health per second. For every 250 health or mana restored, increases movement speed by 25% (decreases for 2 seconds).
Mythic passive effect: all other legendary items grant 5 skill acceleration.

Aeons catalyst

Recipe: Ruby Crystal + Sapphire Crystal
(Unique) Passive – Eternal: Restores mana at a rate of 8% of damage before defensive stats are applied, received from champions. Restores health equal to 20% of mana expended (up to a maximum of 15 per skill application). Switchable skills restore a maximum of 15 health per second.

Randuin’s Omen

Active – Humility: slows nearby enemies by 55% for 2 seconds. Recharges for 60 seconds.
Passive – Critical Fortitude: critical hits deal 20% less damage to you.
Passive – Rock Hardness: Reduces damage from auto attacks by up to 5 + 0.35%. The total reduction cannot exceed 40% of the autoattack damage.

(Unique) Passive – Carnivorous: you gain 0.6 attack power and 0.1% all-round life draw when you kill a minion, and 2x more when you kill a champion, large/epic monster, or siege minion. Maximum boosts: 24 attack power and 4% all-round life gain. When you die, you lose half of your charges.

(Unique) Passive – Haste: Increases movement speed by up to the amount depending on the amount of missing health (maximum effectiveness at 33% health).
